LOCATION
We live and work in Doberdò del Lago – Doberdob a few miles from Monfalcone and the border with Slovenia.
The area of Doberdò is a quiet area, surrounded by meadows and vineyards, oak, and sumac from the Carso. To the east of the country lies the singular intermittent karstic lake, unique in its kind in Italy, and all around we meet numerous karst phenomena. Among the prehistoric remains are the forts and closer to our time in the trenches and tunnels dug into the rock during the Great War.
The climate is cool and breezy in summer and mild in winter, as this area is barely touched by the wind. The area is characterized by the presence of the Slovene-speaking population that for centuries lives on theKarst. The writings and public indications are given in Italian and Slovenian.
HOW TO GET THERE
From TRIESTE: drive on the motorway towards Venice and Udine; exit before the toll to Monfalcone and follow the directions under the viaduct towards Gorizia. When you have reached Jamiano – Jamlje turn left and follow to Doberdò del Lago – Doberdob. The road takes you along the lake, and after a slight ascent you arrive at Doberdò.
From GORIZIA: drive on the highway 55 in the direction of Trieste and Devetachi – Devetaki turn right; continue up the moor to cross the village of Marcottini – Poljane; after a mile revenue Doberdò del Lago – Doberdob.
From UDINE: you can take the highway or the A4 motorway in the direction of Trieste, Redipuglia you leave to continue to Ronchi dei Legionari, where he crossed the center and continue towards Monfalcone; the first level crossing, turn left and follow the signs for Doberdò del Lago.
